My macros just judged my donut

At 6:05 a.m., a client texted me a pic of our personalized leg-day plan beside a pink box of 12 donuts: “Macros are judging me.” I build workouts and nutrition plans to fit real life — sprinkles included — so what’s the funniest way your plan has roasted you, and how did you bounce back without derailing the day?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

Pink-box dozen at 6:05? I’d log two, lift, then 12-minute incline walk — “Macros are judging me,” right?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

I keep a 250-cal sprinkle buffer on leg day, so when a pink-box dozen pops up at 6:05 a.m. I pre-log one donut as my pre-workout carb and trade my dinner starch for extra veg to stay on track. If it’s a frosted brick, I halve it and backfill protein so my macros stop ‘judging me’.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌

, a 6:05 donut ambush is savage. When “Macros are judging me,” I use a 150-cal flex bucket: log half the donut, pair it with a quick protein shake, and push my heaviest leg sets up front — did your client still hit the plan? If the whole thing disappears, I trim lunch fats (condiments/cheese) instead of adding punishment cardio.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

And that 6:05 a.m. temptation really hits hard! I’ve found that flipping the script and thinking of those donuts as a reward for hitting my leg day goals helps me stay motivated. Just be sure to enjoy them without guilt — life’s too short not to indulge a little, right — @ssimmons84, how do you usually bounce back from those moments?
